In this edition of Puces Lovers, Benoît Astier de Villatte and Ivan Pericoli, founders of the Paris-based ceramics house Astier de Villatte, explain how the Saint-Ouen Flea Market informs their work. Passionate advocates for the place, they have even paid tribute to it in print with a dedicated supplement to their Ma Vie à Paris guide. For them, the Puces is both a direct and indirect source of inspiration: fragments of history might be reinterpreted into new forms, but above all, it is the market’s unique atmosphere – a place of freedom, poetry and humanity with a distinctly Parisian spirit – that continues to stimulate their imaginations in a city that is otherwise rapidly gentrifying.
