Puces Portrait: Maxime de Laurentis
A vintage fashion dealer with a sensibility forged alongside Martin Margiela and shaped by a family legacy of dealing, Maxime is attuned to the spiritual resonance of each garment.
Maxime de Laurentis – son and grandson of antique dealers – has held a stand at the Marché Paul-Bert since 2000, specializing in avant-garde and minimalist fashion from the 1980s through the 2000s. A former Margiela assistant stylist, he approaches each piece with the eye of a storyteller rather than a collector, privileging character over pedigree, and he never sells the same piece twice – ensuring that every visit to his stand is a wholly unique discovery. During fashion week, his stand becomes a rendezvous for collectors and designers, including his friend Hamish Bowles. Through rituals such as sweeping, arranging and burning sage and palo santo, Maxime attends to each garment’s spiritual resonance, cleansing it of its past and preparing it to embrace a new story with its next owner.
